Partner Overhand Throw

Good Morning St. Clare Friends!

The sun is finally shining brightly this morning! YAY!! Let's enjoy the rays and get outside and feel that sun on our face as we move our bodies! Today we are going to practice playing catch with a partner using the overhand throw!

Remember the Key Skills of the Overhand Throw:
1) Stand sideways to the target.
2) Eyes on the target and non throwing hand pointing to the target.
3) The throwing arm is by your ear.
4) Step forward with your front foot.
5) Throw the ball and follow through towards the target.

Key Skills for Success for Catching:
1) Eyes on the ball.
2) Arms out in front of you ready to receive the ball.
3) Use your arms to help absorb the object and bring it towards your body. "HUG THE BALL"

Materials:
- a ball to play with that is easy to grip in the palm of your hand

Game:
1) Partners take 5 to 10 paces away from each other.

2) Making sure both partners are ready, pass the ball back and forth counting your successful catches. Try to get 10 successful throw/catches without any mistakes.

3) Once you have made 10 successful catches, challenge yourself to move farther apart. Remember the overhand throw is a throw for distance.
