Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Wow! It's an amazing weekend to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and recharge your body for the week ahead! Today I'm sharing a fabulous resource that I have shared several times... BOKS Fitness Calendar!        For the month of June BOKS Canada has created a fitness challenge to keep your family active by practicing your fitness skills with a "Travel The World" theme. Week 1: Travel the World   - There are 22 family friendly activities on a world map to get your heart pumping and learn something about each of the 7 continents! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! The sun is shining bright and it's going to be a hot one today! Perfect day to get out early and move those muscles before the heat is unbearable! So let's get our heart pumping this morning and then cool off with a water fight or run through the sprinkler this afternoon! Today we are going to use chalk on the sidewalk to create a movement maze and add in some inspirational quotes between exercises for a break... Dribbling Builders & Bulldozers

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Another great day to get outside and move your body in the sunshine! Today we are wrapping up our skills of dribbling for basketball and soccer! Today we are going to play two different games of building and knocking over objects while dribbling the basketball or the soccer ball! Materials: - soccer ball, basketball or firm utility ball - objects that can be easily knocked over and stood up (sand pail, pylons, frisbee, plunger, recycled yogurt containers) Game: 1) Set up materials in designated playing area.  2) Each partner has a ball to dribble.  3) Determine what each partner's job will be for the game. One partner knocks materials over with their hand, while the other partner stands objects back up. 3) On signal, player 1 dribbles around objects knocking them down with their hand. 4) Player 2 dribbles around and stands objects in upright position. 5) Players must be in control of their dribble to knock down or stand

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Another day with sunshine in the forecast! Let's get outside and feel the sun on our faces and get our hearts pumping! Getting your body moving produces happy chemicals in your brain and makes you feel strong to tackle the challenges life throws your way! So... let's do it! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE! Today we are continuing with practicing our soccer dribbling! We are going to challenge our skills by dribbling the ball and keeping it away from our partner! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! The sun is shining and and the forecast today looks great! Let's get outside and get those muscles moving! Today we are going to practice our soccer dribbling! Grab a soccer ball or any firm utility ball and try these new skills out! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Well the day began with sunshine but the clouds are quickly rolling in! Let's get outside and get that heart pumping and muscles moving! Today we are continuing with basketball dribbling. However, today we are going to challenge ourselves to dribble and keep the ball away from a partner! Key Skills of Dribbling (with your hands): - eyes are looking forward, only glancing at the ball occasionally to maintain control - slight forward lean, flexed at the knee and waist - fingers are relaxed and spread out, making contact with finger tips - dribble ball at waist level, keeping ball close to body to protect it - ball is pushed toward the floor, not slapped ** If you do not have a basketball use a bouncy utility ball full of air! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Hope you enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and will continue to enjoy it this week! The forecast looks amazing! Sunshine! Sunshine! And more sunshine! YAY! This week we are working on the fundamental manipulative skill of  "DRIBBLING"! There are actually 2 sports that use dribbling... basketball with your hand and soccer with your foot! We will start with basketball first and then mid week switch to soccer. Remember dribbling is a challenging skill that requires a lot of practice and hand eye coordination. Be patient and enjoy the journey! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! The sun is back and shining brightly! It's a perfect day to get outside to embrace nature and recharge the body by being mindful of the beauty nature provides us! Stimulate your senses and fill the soul with all that nature has to offer! Today we are going for a walk and planting flowers! Remember daily physical activity is essential for a child's physical and mental well being. Find peace through getting outside and finding the beauty in nature! Plant some seeds or flowers and find the joy and satisfaction in watching something grow with your care. Or make a birdfeeder out of recycled materials! Be an environmental steward! Fill the Cup

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Thankfully the rain has stopped. It's a great day to go for a walk to smell all that fresh air, see all the new green growth that comes with spring, feel the coolness of the air after the rain and hear the birds chirp! Today we are also going to play a game on the driveway called Fill The Cup (courtesy of PHE Canada). It's a family relay to fill the cup and get your body moving with different locomotor movements! Materials: - 4 containers - small objects to fill containers  (lego pieces, rocks, small stuffies, etc) - 2 dice - paper & marker Directions: 1) Set up one container on one side of the driveway and the other directly across from it on the other side of the driveway.  Small objects are in one of the containers, while the other is left empty. Good Morning St.Clare Friends! Well it's still raining! We will try and get that body moving today inside with wrapping up our kick with GENTLE minigolf kicks! Key Skills for Kicking: 1) Eyes on the ball. 2) Step towards the ball with the kicking foot. 3) Is contact made with the inside of the foot for passing or shoelaces for shooting on target? 4) Kicking leg should continue towards the target and across the body. 5) Arms are used to maintain balance. Key Skills for Kicking: 1) Eyes on the ball. 2) Step towards the ball with the kicking foot. 3) Is contact made with the inside of the foot for passing or shoelaces for shooting on target? 4) Kicking leg should continue towards the target and across the body. 5) Arms are used to maintain balance. Key Skills for Receiving: 1) Eyes on the ball. 2) Move the body in front of the ball when receiving. 3) Stop the ball with underfoot or instep. Game: 1) Using a soccer ball or utility ball stand 10-15 paces away from your partner. 2) Eyes on the target, plant the non-kicking foot next to the ball while making contact with the instep to follow through with the leg towards the target. 3) Partner stops the ball by moving in front of the ball when receiving and stops the ball with underfoot or instep

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Hope you had a chance to get outside yesterday before the rain sets in! Today we are continuing to work on our kicking skills so let's do this before the rain starts! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and had the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors - possibly a walk, bike ride, hike, yard work, BBQ, or relaxing in a lawn chair! We were blessed with so much sunshine, which is not typical of May long weekend! I think the snow/rain has decided to hold off until later this week! Good Morning St. Clare Friends! It's May long weekend the sun is shining and we are moving in the right direction against the Covid fight! Let's celebrate the long weekend with getting back to nature (while maintaining the 2m social distancing rule)! We all know the importance of getting 60 minutes of physical activity daily to maintain optimal health benefits! Overhand Throw Targets

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! The sun is shining again today! Let's kick off the long weekend with wrapping up the overhand throw with some stuffie target practice! Remember the Key Skills of the Overhand Throw: 1) Stand sideways to the target. 2) Eyes on the target and non throwing hand pointing to the target. 3) The throwing arm is by your ear. 4) Step forward with your front foot.  5) Throw the ball and follow through towards the target. Today we are continuing with the overhand throw but switching gears to another sport that uses this throw for distance... BASEBALL ! Don't worry if you don't have a glove... problem solved with a cap or a pot to catch! Check it out below and get that body moving! Let's kick start our learning with some fresh air and moving our bodies to get our heart pumping and muscles moving! This week we are learning the overhand throw .  This throw is used for throwing for distance. The most common sports that use this throw are football and baseball! Key Skills of the Overhand Throw: 1) Stand sideways to the target. 2) Eyes on the target and non throwing hand pointing to the target. 3) The throwing arm is by your ear. 4) Step forward with your front foot.  5) Throw the ball and follow through towards the target.
