Underhand Sock Toss

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Well let's continue to enjoy this beautiful sunny spring weather! Again today we will continue with the underhand roll moving into a game with a partner! So let's play! Basic Skills For Underhand Throwing: 1) Eyes on the target and facing the target. 2) Bring throwing arm back before you throw. 3) Step with the  opposite foot  that you throw with. 4) Release ball between knee and waist. 5) Your throwing arm should follow through to your target. Materials: - 6 pairs of balled up socks (3 pairs for each partner - so choose two different colors to keep track of your points) - Paper plates with points on them( you can also use paper to create targets) for targets. Practice: -Set up game using photo above as guide. - Practice using the underhand throw technique to hit the targets. Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Feeling blessed with another nice day in the forecast! Let's continue challenging ourselves to further develop our underhand throw! Basic Skills For Underhand Throwing: 1) Eyes on the target and facing the target. 2) Bring throwing arm back before you throw. 3) Step with the  opposite foot  that you throw with. 4) Release ball between knee and waist. 5) Your throwing arm should follow through to your target. Materials: - a couple of balls that can be held in the palm of your hand (tennis balls, smaller utility ball, rolled up socks) - targets to throw at (paper towel or toilet paper rolls to balance beanie boos on as targets)  *** Please get your parent's permission first! Game: 1) Take 5 to 10 paces back from your target. 2) Using the basic skills for underhand throw, aim at the target and throw 3 times. Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Wow it's going to be a fabulous day to get outside and move! The sun is shining and the high is 20 degrees! Woohoo! ☀ Today we are continuing with the underhand throw. Basic Skills For Underhand Throwing: 1) Eyes on the target and facing the target. 2) Bring throwing arm back before you throw. 3) Step with the  opposite foot  that you throw with. 4) Release ball between knee and waist. 5) Your throwing arm should follow through to your target. Key Skills for Success: 1) Eyes on the target and facing the target 2) Bring throwing arm back before you throw. 3) Step with the  opposite foot that you throw with. 4) Release ball between knee and waist. 5) Your throwing arm should follow through to your target. Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Sunday is a beautiful day to relax, pray for thanks for the small blessings in our life at this difficult time and meditate with deep breathing in our natural surroundings. There are several new findings that reinforce the importance of getting back to nature to relax and feel at peace. Although we are quarantined and asked to stay at home and remain in our community, there are plenty of ways to enjoy nature at hand. Our family has been exploring new areas of our community such as taking a walk on a street we have never been on, exploring among the trees on a walking path or just finding a spot on the school field (social distancing of course) to throw a ball around or sit and take in the sunshine! Today we will begin with the serenity prayer and then take a lovely walk in the sunshine with the gratitude scavenger hunt below! Earth Week Relay

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Today is another day to get active, move those muscles, get your heart pumping and keep your body strong to combat the stress and changes that are occurring during this difficult time. Let's do it together with a family friendly relay race to celebrate Earth Day! This Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Relay is from BOKS CANADA facebook page. Check out other cool ideas to keep your family active at this time! 1) Brainstorm positive and negative reduce, reuse and recycle phrases such as the examples given below. Write each of them on slips of paper. 2) Set up 2 cones or markers opposite each other (10 -15 paces) that you will run between. Or choose two rooms in your home as the start and finish. 3) Place all the reduce, reuse, recycle cards at the far cone folded in half. 4) Starting at the first cone, run to the second and pick up a card.  5) Run back to first cone and open card - if it is a positive RRR card, keep it, run and

Let's Bowl!

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Well the sun is shining again and the sky is blue! It's a perfect day to wrap up our underhand roll with a friendly game of lawn bowling! Key Skills for Rolling: 1) Eyes on target. 2) Knees are bent. 3) Bring throwing arm back like pendulum. 4) Step forward with opposite foot of rolling arm. 5) Release ball low to the ground so it doesn't bounce. 6) Throwing arm follows through in motion towards target. Materials: - various sizes of balls - make shift bowling pins to knock down (examples: milk jugs, empty cans, pylons, stuffies, toys) Game: 1) Set up milk jugs (bowling pins) in triangle formation or in a row. Take 5 paces back (or more if you want more of a challenge). 2) Using the "underhand roll" technique to roll a ball to knock down targets. Take three turns before tallying points. Each knock down can be 1 point. Once your turn is complete, set up for pins for your opponent.

Good Morning St. Clare Friends! The sky is blue, the sun is shining, so it's a great day to get that body moving and that heart pumping! We are continuing with our fundamental skill of underhand rolling again today! Remember Key Skills for Rolling: 1) Eyes on target. 2) Knees are bent. 3) Bring throwing arm back like pendulum. 4) Step forward with opposite foot of rolling arm. 5) Release ball low to the ground so it doesn't bounce. 6) Throwing arm follows through in motion towards target. Materials: - various sizes of balls - various sizes of "targets" to roll ball into (ex. garbage can, laundry basket, pail, bin) Game: 1) Set up targets and take 5 paces back (or more if you want more of a challenge). 2) Using the "underhand roll" technique, roll the ball into the target. 3) Challenge yourself after completing three successful rolls to move further from target or use smaller target. Good Morning St. Clare Friends! Well its not as sunny as yesterday but we can warm up with continuing to work on our underhand roll with a new game today! Basic Skills For Rolling: 1) Eyes on the target. 2) Knees are bent. 3) Bring throwing arm back like pendulum. 4) Step forward with opposite foot of rolling arm. 5) Release ball low to the ground so it doesn't bounce. 6) Throwing arm follows through in motion towards target. Materials: - larger open space playing area (back yard) - ball  - pylon, milk jug, cone, or marker of some kind Game:   1) One partner is the "pitcher" and the other the "kicker". 2) Partners stand across from each other with three markers set up like below.                                               3) On a signal to go, pitcher ROLLS  the ball to their kicker. The kicker then kicks the object and moves to touch the marker in the center and back as many times as possible. A point is scored for

The sun is shining and the birds are chirping so let's take advantage of this spring weather and work on our underhand roll today!  Key Skills for Success: 1) Eyes on the target. 2) Knees are bent. 3) Bring throwing arm back like "pendulum" (so keep throwing arm straight and locked at elbow) 4)Step forward with  opposite  foot of rolling arm. 5) Release ball low to the ground so it doesn't bounce. 6) Throwing arm follows through in motion towards target. Materials: - a couple of balls that can be held in palm of your hand (tennis balls, smaller utility ball) - bucket for target (simply tip over) - objects that can be lined up to knock over (pylon, milk jug, empty cans, light toys) - paper and pencil for tic tac toe game Practice: With a partner stand 5-10 paces away from each other and practice the rolling technique to each other with open legs of  the partner for the target. Good Morning St. Clare Friends! I hope you all enjoyed Spring Break and had a chance to relax with family and take a break from the new routine of Google Classroom. I also hope you were able to get your body moving over the break to keep your heart, lungs and muscles strong ! One of the best ways to stay healthy and strong during these stressful times is exercising daily and getting some fresh air. As we wrap up April and move into May we are going to focus on developing our FUNdamental Movement Skills . Through developing these skills we develop our " Physical Literacy ". "Physical Literacy is when kids have developed the skills and confidence to be active in lots of different sports and activities." Remember there are so many benefits to exercising... Our final exercises today for the Be Fit For Life Game are Stability Spades  which have us focussing on balancing! Remember when you are balancing to hold your arms out for stability and choose something to focus your eyes on. Let's get our bodies warmed up for some fresh air this afternoon with a continuation of the game yesterday from Be Fit For Life... Before we begin, today I would like to share a poster of what happens to your body while you exercise... As I mentioned yesterday, all of these body changes during exercise make your body stronger and therefore healthier! During these uncertain times it is important to keep our bodies strong and healthy to deal with all of the stress and anxiety that comes our way. Sooo...
