Jump Rope Challenge... Anyone?!?

Good Morning St. Clare Friends!

Well the weather looks questionable today, so let's get outside early to enjoy some fresh air and move our bodies before the rain begins!

Mr. Krieger / Jump Rope

Materials:
- a skipping rope
- any rope that is the correct height to jump with

** To find the right size rope, hold the handles in both hands, step on the center with both feet and pull until the rope is tight at your chest. (If it is too long simply wrap it around your hands to shorten.)


Key Skills for Jump Rope:
1) Keep your elbows at your sides.
2) Use your wrist to turn the rope.
3) Bend your knees slightly when you land.

Activity:
1) Today I would like you to warm up with jumping over rope while walking or basic jump rope on the spot. Challenge yourself to do 50 or up to 100 skips in a row without stopping! You can do it!!

2) Our new jump rope skill today is "SIDE SWING " skipping. So give it a try! Set a goal for yourself that you can reach. For example, if you are in grade 3, try 3 walking skips in a roll without a mistake. If this becomes too easy challenge yourself to add more skips in a row.

3) Our second skill to try today is "HEEL TAPS " while skipping. Set a goal for yourself that your can reach. Remember trying something new isn't perfect the first try. Stick with it and practice. I know you can do it!
