Paddle Ball Practice

Well the sun is back today! It's a great day to get outside and try a new skill! This week we are working on striking objects. There are several sports that use this skill: badminton, tennis, pickle ball, ping pong, squash, racket ball, t-ball and baseball! We have a lot to opportunities to try this skill, don't we!

There are several sports that use this skill: badminton, tennis, pickle ball, ping pong, squash, racket ball, t-ball and baseball! We have a lot to opportunities to try this skill, don't we!
Key Skills of Striking:
- Eye on the ball.
- Hold racket with dominant hand (usually hand you write with).
- Ready position with knees slightly bent.
- Shift weight from back to front.
- Swing the arm forward to make contact with the ball.
- Follow through with hand towards target and upward to opposite shoulder.
Materials:
- badminton or tennis racket or homemade racket with paper plate
- balloon, fluff ball or balled up socks, badminton birdie or small ball
Game:
1) Practice your hand-eye coordination by hitting your balloon up with your paddle. Keep good control by not hitting the balloon to high - hit to height of your eyebrow

2) Practice hitting your balloon with both sides of your paddle - like flipping pancakes!

3) Try creating your own trick with your paddle and balloon - try using your paddle and your head to keep the balloon in the air!

4) Challenge yourself to use a smaller object to strike, such as a craft fluff ball!
