Developing Fundamental Movement Skills
Good Morning St. Clare Friends!
I hope you all enjoyed Spring Break and had a chance to relax with family and take a break from the new routine of Google Classroom. I also hope you were able to get your body moving over the break to keep your heart, lungs and muscles strong! One of the best ways to stay healthy and strong during these stressful times is exercising daily and getting some fresh air.
As we wrap up April and move into May we are going to focus on developing our FUNdamental Movement Skills. Through developing these skills we develop our "Physical Literacy".
"Physical Literacy is when kids have developed the skills and confidence to be active in lots of different sports and activities." (courtesy of Active for Life)
Today I would like you to try a few of these activities outside to get your body warmed up and your coordination in check for the coming week of new challenges to develop these basic skills!
1) 1 legged balance and balance walks (play balance tag or walk along a log)
2) Log roll (roll down a hill or across the grass)
3) Run (go for a jog)
4) Dodge (play a game of tag)
5) Skip ("hop-step" during a nature walk)
6) Gallop ("step-together" - one foot following the other during a walk)
7) Jump & Hop (play hopscotch)
8) Leap (over a puddle)
9) Underhand roll (go bowling)
10) Underhand throw (play bocce ball or horse shoes)
11) Catch (play catch with a ball)
12) Overhand throw (football or baseball)
13) Kick (play soccer)
14) Strike (play baseball or tennis or badminton or volleyball)
15) Dribbling ( play basketball)
Stay Active! Stay Strong! Stay Positive!
