Let's Play Ball!
Good Morning St. Clare Friends!
Another great day to get outside and play in the beautiful sunshine! Today we are continuing with the overhand throw but switching gears to another sport that uses this throw for distance...BASEBALL! Don't worry if you don't have a glove... problem solved with a cap or a pot to catch! Check it out below and get that body moving!
Another great day to get outside and play in the beautiful sunshine! Today we are continuing with the overhand throw but switching gears to another sport that uses this throw for distance...BASEBALL! Don't worry if you don't have a glove... problem solved with a cap or a pot to catch! Check it out below and get that body moving!
Materials:
- a ball that can be easily gripped in the palm of your hand
- something to catch with, such as: ball glove, pot, cap
Remember the Key Skills of the Overhand Throw:
1) Stand sideways to the target.
2) Eyes on the target and non throwing hand pointing to the target.
3) The throwing arm is by your ear.
4) Step forward with your front foot.
5) Throw the ball and follow through towards the target.
Key Skills for Success for Catching:
1) Eyes on the ball.
2) Arms out in front of you ready to receive the ball.
3) Use your arms to help absorb the object and bring it towards your body. "HUG THE BALL"

3) Use your arms to help absorb the object and bring it towards your body. "HUG THE BALL"
1) Partners take 10 - 15 paces away from each other.
2) Making sure both partners are ready, pass the ball back and forth counting your successful catches. Try to get 10 successful throw/catches without any mistakes.
3) Once you have made 10 successful catches, challenge yourself to move farther apart. Remember the overhand throw is a throw for distance.
